ABOUT
FOLK MODERNISM
As a descendent of Oregon's Bavarian colony of craftspeople, much of Carrie's work is influenced by time spent on her family's nineteenth century farm. Inspired by rural, early American life - Von Kiel has always been fascinated with folk design and distilled ornamentation; exploring the impact of nuanced form with hand-inking and digital illustration.
BAUHAUS & POP ART
A Portland native, Carrie has been a designer and graphic artist for nearly two decades. She weaves her love of graphic art with mid-century, Bauhaus and Plakastil design - styles which utilize minimalism and simplified/ flattened perspective.
Additionally her work is influenced by graphic designers and pop artists of that era - as she finds the use of grids, pictograms and glyphs similar to gestalt folk patterns. And with her exploration Von Kiel aims to impart a female perspective to this classic aesthetic.
Carrie's artwork is held in both private and public collections, as well as by Fortune 500 companies.
